Fairy Tale

Fairy Tale

Dragon Zoo’s list of top ten dragon anime missed a couple of significant dragon anime offerings which we intend to review on our dragon anime page. High School DxD has enjoyed far too much of our viewing time in the hunt for dragon action, will Fairy Tail offer something a little more, well, dragony?

Back in October 2009, the first of 175 episodes of the anime series Fairy Tail aired. This series was adapted from Hiro Mashima’s Manga, and told the story of Earth Land, a fantasy world where a Mage Guild exists called “Fairy Tail”. The series focusses on the character Lucy Heartfilia, a seventeen year old girl who wishes to become a wizard and member of this guild and – as luck would have it – one day she meets Natsu Dragneel, a boy who is a Mage in Fairy Tail and someone that can realise her life’s ambition…

Through series 1 to 5, Fairy Tail rewarded viewers with plenty of dragon action to please the likes of us here at Dragon Zoo. (Check out our website trailer for one of our favourite Fairy Tail scenes). It just so happened that the boy Lucy meets, Natsu, is a dragon slayer with the abilities of a dragon and in search of his missing foster father, the dragon, Igneel. As well as all of this dragon action, there’s also an evil plot to attack the kingdom with dragons brought from the past through a time travel gate, a plot that the Fairy Tail Mage must prevent from happening. This story arc in particular offers plenty of stunning visuals and exciting dragon action.

If you’re after dragons in your anime, you can do a lot worse than this anime series. Recommended, even with the dipping quality of the later seasons. Fairy Tail the series is rated 8.4 on IMDb.

The movie, Fairy Tail: Priestess of the Phoenix (2012) is rated 7.3 on IMDb.
